CONSTITUTION OF THE GEOLOGICAL SOCIETY OF PUERTO RICO, INC.

 

ARTICLE I

Name

 

The name of the society is “The Geological Society of Puerto Rico, Inc.”; it is known as “Geological Society of Puerto Rico” or “Sociedad Geológica de Puerto Rico”.

 

ARTICLE II

Purpose

 

The purpose of the Society is the promotion of the Science and the profession of Geology in Puerto Rico and adjacent areas through the interchange and dissemination of geological information and the wealth of the professionals of this Science.

 

ARTICLE III

Membership

 

The membership of the Society is classified as Members, Emeritus Members, Honorary Members, Associates and Student Members.

 

ARTICLE IV

Management

 

The affairs of the society are managed on behalf of the membership by a Council of eight (8) duly elected at regular intervals from the Members of the Society.

 

ARTICLE V

Annual Meeting

 

The Annual Meeting of the Society for the election of officers and councilors and for such other business as may properly come before the meeting shall be held at such time and place as the Council may from time to time prescribe.

 

ARTICLE VI

By-laws

 

By-laws not inconsistent with this Constitution shall be adopted at the time of the adoption of this Constitution and may be amended as therein provided.

 

ARTICLE VII

Amendments

 

Amendments to this Constitution proposed not less than sixty (60) days before a Meeting of the Society by a two-thirds (2/3) vote of the Council or by a petition signed by one-third (1/3) of the Members of the Society shall be set forth in the notice of such meetings and may be adopted by a two-thirds (2/3) vote of the Members present and voting or represented by proxy at such meetings.
